THIS IS NOT YOUR TYPICAL FRATERNITY

AGR is very different from most fraternities you will find on campus. First, we do not have a pledging process of any kind. Rather, we initiate all brothers within 72 hours of extending them bids, allowing them to become equal members of the fraternity from the beginning. After initiation, our new brothers enter the AGR Brotherhood Program, which is a semester-long "introduction" to the fraternity. The Brotherhood Program teaches what it means to be Greek, and more importantly, what it means to be an AGR.

Secondly, as the National Agricultural Fraternity, AGR is the only professional/social fraternity in the nation. This means our brothers enjoy all the fun aspects of fraternity life, such as living in a fraternity house, going on road trips, having mixers with sororities, and of course, throwing parties.

However, and more importantly, our brothers are also able to use the fraternity as a resource to help them obtain career opportunities upon graduation. As a professional fraternity, AGR  is concerned with promoting the development of our brothers' careers. We offer:

1) Regional career seminars for undergraduates
2) Internships through alumni contacts
3) Job networking
4) Alumni associations with informative ag programming

While Alpha Gamma Rho is an ag-based fraternity, we also accept men who major in areas other than those found in the School of Agribusiness/Agriscience. Our purpose is "to make better men, and through them a broader and better agriculture." Over the years, the fraternity has come to realize that there are many other career fields besides production agriculture that help to achieve this purpose. Therefore, a potential non-ag brother must explain how he intends to achieve the fraternity's purpose through his chosen career, or his life for that matter, before the fraternity will extend him a bid. While we enjoy diversity in the chapter, we want to keep and maintain the core agricultural values which define AGR on a national level.

Through the years, Beta Theta has had brothers major in such non-ag studies as Recording Industry, Marketing, Political Science, Finance, Foreign Language, Biology, Mass Communications, Business Administration, and Aerospace just to name a few. All of these brothers continue to achieve AGR's purpose, thus reinforcing the benefit of the fraternity to worldwide agriculture.

Many fraternities allow their brothers to lose focus on their classes, thus causing their grades to suffer many times to the point of failure. At Alpha Gamma Rho, we know that education comes first. We provide our brothers with a number of  beneficial studying tools, giving them an edge over the typical, everyday student.

First, we have a study room at the fraternity house, which contains a computer lab, a text book library, and the infamous "old test file," which has aided many a brother in preparing for exams.  Secondly, as ag-students, most of our brothers take the same classes. Therefore, we are able to put together study groups and help each other to be successful in our classes. It definitely helps to be surrounded by fellow brothers that encourage each other and work together towards graduation.

The skills we learn here at MTSU will ultimately determine our futures. As brothers of AGR, we expect each other to do our best to succeed. We want to see each other go on to bigger and better things in our lives. Success comes at a price, and we know that we must all work hard to achieve it.
